Catatonia 2008?

Last year, I accurately predicted that the Spice Girls were about to reunite.

Tonight, I am predicting that, before the year is out, my all-time favourite band, Catatonia, will reunite.

This weekend I saw Cerys Matthews live in Monmouth & Newtown. Fantastic gigs. It was ace to finally see the gigs come to fruition, after they were postponed so she could go into the jungle last November. The Awyren tracks sounded fantastic live, particularly Trwy'r Drych (which I learned means 'Through A Glass'). We were treated to two encores and a few brand new songs. And, as always, she came and spoke to us afterwards.

Anyway - this time around, three Catatonia tracks were performed: Strange Glue, Dead From The Waist Down and Road Rage.

So...why my prediction of a reunion? Two reasons: firstly, she performed Road Rage, the holy grail of Catatonia songs. She has never performed it solo before, citing she didn't feel comfortable singing it as it was the band's song; secondly, she has three albums coming out this year:
  1. Awyren part 2 (a Welsh language follow-up to last autumn's EP);
  2. Turn It On Slow (a full length, English album)
  3. "A top secret album that I can't talk about"

So...there's my prediction and reasoning. Time will tell!

Meanwhile, here is the setlist from the gigs; and a full-length video of Road Rage, enjoy...
